Save Me
By Crystal
A wave of sadness overcame her as she entered the empty house. She was there to wait for the real estate agent to come by and pick up the keys. The family who lived there for the past few years moved out a couple of days ago, but that wasn't the reason for her sadness. It was the family who lived there before them. The family she lived next door to since she was nine.
The family she grew up with.
She placed the small radio she brought with her on the window sill and sat down. As she gazed around the house she was plagued with many memories of the things that she experienced in that house. Games of hide and seek, pillow fights, make out sessions. With that last one, she was suddenly thinking of him. Oh, how she missed him. He was her first everything. First kiss. First date. First love. They had been engaged to get married for two weeks when the accident happened. Him and his family were on their way back from a short promotional tour in New York when their plane was struck by lightning and crashed. There were no survivors. They were nineteen then. She was now twenty-six. Seven years had gone by. There were so many things that she missed about him. His laugh, his smile, and his eyes. Those deep, wonderful blue eyes. They were her only weekness. All he had to do was smile and turn on the electricity in those baby blues and she would melt in his hands. Just thinking about it made her smile. He always knew how to make her smile.

He stood on the other side of the room watching her. He wished that he could talk to her, but that wasn't possible. As she leaned back and closed her eyes, he noticed that she looked even more beautiful than before. He loved her so much. For seven years he looked down on her, watching her, but this was the first time that he was allowed to visit her. He felt so bad when he had to leave without telling her that he loved her first. His attention was suddenly turned to the radio when the lyrics of an all too familar song came drifting out of the speakers. A huge smile formed on his face as he stepped towards her.

Loving you like I never have before
|
Her eyes snapped open and she looked at the radio. That was her song. He wrote that song especially for her. In the years since he died she couldn't bring herself to listen to the it anymore, it was too unbearable. She reached over to turn it off and stopped. Something told her to leave the song on, to let it play. Slowly, she drew her hand back and closed her eyes, and for the first time in seven years, she listened to the sweet voice of her deceased love singing the song that he wrote for her.
|
I'm needing you to open up the door
If begging you might somehow turn the tides
Then tell me to I've got to get this off my mind
|
He just stood there looking at her. He used to do that all the time. Just looking at her and admiring her beauty. He saw as she reached up and brush her hair out of her face. She had the most beautiful long, dark brown hair. He felt a sudden urge to touch it, and he reached his hand out and gently ran it through her silky hair.
|
I never thought I'd be speaking these words I never thought I'd need to say
Another day alone is more than I can take
|
She opened her eyes startled, as she felt something run through her hair. Thinking that there must have been a window open somewhere, she got up to close it, but soon realized that all of the windows in the house were closed. She figured that there must be a draft somewhere in the house. She leaned back against the wall. She had the strangest feeling that she wasn't alone. Then, she felt it again. Something brushing through her hair. It didn't feel like a breeze though. It felt more like someone was running a hand though her hair. At first, she felt a little scared, but then she felt a soothing, comforting warmth spread though her body. It made her feel safe, and she relaxed and closed her eyes again.
|
Won't you save me, 'cause saving is what I need
I just want to be by your side
Won't you save me, I don't want to be
Just drifting through the sea of life
|
He laughed softly when she jumped. He knew it probably scared her a bit, but it would be a long time before he ever got to touch her again. Out of habit, he started to sing along, softly to the music on the radio. She always loved it when he sang to her.
|
Listen please, baby don't walk out that door
I'm on my knees, your all I'm living for
I never thought I'd be speaking these words
Heaven thought I'd find a way
Another day alone is more than I can take
|
She could hear faint singing. Not the singing from the radio, but another voice close by singing along. It didn't scare her though. Instead she got this warm, tingling feeling in her body. There was only one person who could make her feel that way.
|
Won't you save me, 'cause saving is what I need
I just want to be by your side
Won't you save me, I don't want to be
Just drifting though the sea of life
|
He continued to sing as he gently wrapped one arm around her waist and used the other to stroke the side of her face. He couldn't believe how much he missed doing this.
|
Suddenly the sky is falling
Could it be it's too late for me
If I never said I'm sorry, then I'm wrong, yes I'm wrong Then I hear my spirit calling
Wondering if she's longing for me
And then I know that I can't live without her
|
She could feel someone holding her and touching her. She wasn't sure what was going on, but she prayed that it wouldn't end anytime soon.
|
Won't you save me, 'cause saving is what I need
I just want to be by your side
Won't you save me, I don't want to be
Just drifting through the sea of life
|
His time was almost up, but there was one last thing he had to do before he went back. Gently, he placed his hand on the back of her neck and guided her face closer to his.
|
Won't you save me
Won't you save me
Won't you save me
|
As the last two words of the song flowed out of the radio their lips met in a soft, passionate kiss. A goodbye kiss, for it would be their last one for a long time before they were to meet again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Hello?" She jumped snapping her eyes open and looked towards the front door. There stood a woman wearing a business suit and carrying a briefcase. "Ms. Costa?" The woman asked. "Yes, thats me." "Hi, I'm Jane from the real estate company. I'm here to pick up the keys." "Oh yes, of course," she replied. She pulled the keys from her pocket and handed them to her. "Thankyou so much. I appreciate you waiting here for me to come by," she smiled. "Oh, it was no problem at all, but I should get going now. I've got a lot of things to get done today," she said. "Oh, well I don't want to keep you. I'm going to be here for a while taking pictures of the house and filling out papers. It was nice meeting you." "You too, bye." "Bye."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He looked down at her from the roof of the house, watching her leave. He touched a finger to his lips and smiled. "I love you." And he was gone.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She turned and just stood looking at the house for a few minutes thinking. Then she looked towards the sky and smiled. "I love you, too."
